The final carer we interviewed was Grahame, who happens to be the partner of Karen, one of the previous foster carers that we interviewed and coincidentally, they got the same questions!

It’s a common misconception that to foster you have to be a couple, but this just isn’t true, you can be single and foster! If you are part of a couple however it is very important to discuss fostering and make you are both on the same page as regardless of who the primary carer is it will take time and present challenges to both of you.

You should both do your research into foster care and talk about what sort of fostering you would like to take on, whether its respite care, short-term or long-term.

Thank you to Grahame for taking part in the interview! The video of the full interview is also now live on our YouTube! I you want to view it, follow the link: https://youtu.be/ksOJcIgqpeA

What is your name and how long have you fostered?

Grahame: “My name is Grahame and I've been fostering, I think 16 months now.”

Why did you choose to foster with The Homefinding & Fostering Agency?

Grahame:  “Recommendations from friends, good reputation, just some good feedback from them saying how supportive they are and how [they’re] such an excellent fostering service, really. So that's the best referral; word of mouth.”

What three words would you use to describe fostering?

Grahame:  “Challenging, rewarding, satisfying.”

Interviewer:  “That's incredible, you chose the same three words that they [Natalie & Karen]] chose!”

Funnily enough, Grahame and Karen said the exact same three words to describe fostering, which as Rebecca (our Responsible individual at Homefinding) said clearly means they were “obviously perfectly matched”.

We also could not have come up with three better words to describe fostering, it is one of the most rewarding and satisfying careers you can find yourself in, but also can be difficult, which is why we do our best to support our foster carers to make it as easier as possible to care for a vulnerable young person.

If you have any further questions about fostering, send us a message and we will be happy to give you more information.

We are planning to run coffee morning at our agency which you can turn up to for free and have a zero-commitment chat with us and other people interested in fostering!
